Arthur Blarr: The Lovejoy Lombardi

Lovejoy is a neighborhood in Buffalo that borders Cheektowaga. It is home to people that are of Italian and Polish descent. The one thing that is and was missing in that neighborhood was sports. The youth in Lovejoy would usually hang around on the street corners doing nothing. Even though they would ride their bikes around but there was nothing else for them to do.

But one man would change it all. This man is, and still is, the most beloved and respected person in the community. His name is Arthur E. Blarr.

Arthur and Eleanor Blarr

“He was involved with sports for all of his life”, Susan Leli said.

Susan Leli is the daughter of Arthur and Eleanor Blarr who witnessed all of her father’s achievements with sports mostly hockey. It is not just hockey he coached, she exclaimed, he also coached baseball.

Right before he was involved with coaching,. Arthur Blarr  and his brother, Kenneth Blarr, strived their excellence on the Baseball field and the Basketball courts. Both Art and Kenny were so stellar that they were offered contracts by two MLB teams. Those teams were the Kansas City Royals (offered to Arthur) and The Chicago White Sox (offered to Uncle Kenny). Sadly, Art could not play in the Major League due to serving in World War II. Kenny wound up having an elbow injury on his right arm, killing his dreams of playing in the MLB.

When the war ended in 1945, Arthur Blarr returned home to Lovejoy, where great moments started awaiting for him.

Even though he was involved with baseball, he was also a hockey player. He did play hockey before joining the service.

Susan Leli said the whole idea of him coaching hockey started right after he came home. He knows a shoe store owner with the name of Art Pelzer. Even though she tried her best to remember what happened, she said that Art Pelzer asked her father if he would love to coach a hockey team in Lovejoy. From that day one till his death, he reluctantly took the task of coaching hockey.

When he started coaching hockey, he actually coached adults. He coached his brother Kenny, Uncle Jimmy, and Buddy spears. While he coached them, he would bring them up to Fort Erie where they would play other adult hockey teams in that area.

As we fast forward into 1970, Arthur Blarr has been trying to get his youngest son to play a sport. His son would spend watching cartoons on the television. But one day, Arthur got him to watch the WWF for the first time. He was invested into watching it until he was introduced to the wonderful sport of hockey. From that time on, Arthur Blarr’s son, Arthur “Bucky” Blarr has fallen in love with hockey ever since thanks to his father. Even better for the both of them, he got Bucky to finally play the greatest sport of all time. Yes that sport is none other than ice hockey.

In the 70’s Arthur Blarr finally started to form a team in Lovejoy. But the first step for this team is to get kids to play. His goal for youth hockey is to get the kids of Lovejoys off the streets and get them to play. He wanted everyone to play. He does not want to see them smoking on the street corners and doing nothing.

Arthur “Bucky” Blarr always had fondness of his father for his contributions to youth hockey in Western New York. He would always tell stories about hockey and stories about his father’s involvement with youth hockey. He also had connections. Not with the Mafia of course but connections with workers from the old Buffalo Memorial Auditorium.

He explained the very first time his father started coaching him and a few adults at Humboldt Park.

“He would get guys front telephone companies to skate with chairs”. He was teaching adults, with no skating experience, how to properly skate.

The one day he was practicing with the team, between 1971 and 1972, Art brought a special guest for the team. As mentioned before, he has a lot of connections with the Memorial Auditiorium. He brought Sabres defenseman Mike Robitaille to chat with the team.

Prior to practices, Arthur Blarr would rent out hockey films from a local library in the lower level. While there, he would watch them first to get an understanding on how to coach these kids with his knowledge on the sport. He would have the team watch the films so they can have an idea on how to properly play the puck and use their body. Including making huge hits of course.

Bucky has witnessed playing under his dad when he was younger. He would describe him as a very strict and a very tough coach. He would always want the team to play hard to win the game. He even caused a rivalry between his team, The Lovejoy Americans, and the Buffalo Regals.

He may be strict, but that does not stop anyone from respecting him. No matter how strict he was, he was still heavily respected by the players and by the people of Lovejoy. He would also state that everyone on the team will get a shift. He rotates through each line to see the chemistry between players. The one goal he would always through these line changes is to make sure everyone gets equal ice time as one another.

Despite starting a team, he also started a league at Houghton Park. While coaching there, Bucky would be Arthur’s helper with the team. He explained that he used to carry sticks for the 21 and older guys to the bench.

There was one instance in which this event made Bucky excited. The goalie on his dad’s team took a slap shot to the face. Do not worry, he was wearing a mask but goalie masks back then were not the best protection. His sister, Sally, was there and she had to drive him to the hospital while Bucky gets to clean the blood off the goalie mask.

“I was really excited to clean out that goalie’s mask”, he said.

Another favorite memory of his was when his father coached the Fire Department. Prior to what happened next, the Fire Department won the league championship all because of Arthur Blarr.

“I gave my Dad a bullwhip after winning the championship” Bucky commented.

Even though he coaches his teams throughout the week, Art would always find the time to sit down and spend time with his family.

Susan said that her father has connections with the Aud as well. When she was younger, he would take her and her siblings to see the old Buffalo Bisons play during there days in the American Hockey League.

He was also a proud season ticket holder of the Buffalo Sabres and the Buffalo Bills. He would take his kids, friends, or grandkids to see the teams play when he gets the chance to see them.

Julie Ann Martin reminisced on the memories she had with her grandfather.

When she was little, she played on the St. Agnes floor hockey team, also known as the St. Agnes Warriors. She played floor hockey along with her siblings all due to the influencing of their grandfather.

“He comes to see me play at the Hennepin Center for floor hockey” she said.

He would always come their sports games, watching them play their hearts out against other schools.

When she and her sisters, along with their mother, visit Art and Eleanor for sunday dinner, he has to make sure that everyone has fun. How does he get everyone to have fun and active at his house you ask? He would bring them outside in his backyard and play sports before dinner.

“He would make us play basketball, baseball, volleyball, wiffle ball, badminton, and kickball”.

Then afterwards, they would have dinner.

Every Sunday for Julie, her siblings, and Mom, they would go visit Arthur to watch football with him. In which she would claim him as being the best grandfather in the world.

When Bucky has a game during the week or during the weekend, she would go and watch him play. She would also see her grandfather coach the team.

Both Bucky and Julie has told another favorite story of Art. Arthur Blarr had false teeth, probably from playing hockey. Every time she would see, he would provide a magic trick for her. What kind of a magic trick would he perform for her? Well he would make his false teeth disappear for her.

She would be amazed everytime he would do that.

“Julie would always ask him to make his teeth disappear” Bucky recalled.

“I would say, ‘make your teeth disappear Grandpa’” she said.

Tragedy struck on December 30,1980.

When Arthur “Bucky” Blarr was 18 years old, he went skating with his father for the very last time. On that day he described the weather condition as almost blizzard-like.

Bucky explained that he originally did not want to go skating with his father. On the same note as his mother, Eleanor, was also against Arthur going skating that day. But Arthur decided to go anyway and brought his son with him.

There was an outdoor rink in Como Park that Arthur brought Bucky to. But after Arthur tied his skates, he took two steps on the ice and collapsed.

Bucky rushed towards to perform CPR to keep him alive. He only managed to keep him alive for 15 minutes until the ambulance arrived.

“I rode in the back of the ambulance with my skates on”, Bucky explained that he did not take his skates off.

As soon as they were in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Arthur Blarr passed away. It was revealed that he had a heart attack while trying to skate. He was only 58 years old.

One thing Bucky remembered is what his father said about how he wanted to die.

“He has always said that he wanted die on ice”

Everyone in Lovejoy was saddened to hear the passing of such an incredible human being in the community. He managed to get to kids off the streets and prevented them from doing drugs.

During a Buffalo Sabres game on New Years Eve, against the Los Angeles Kings, his name was announced due to his involvement within the city of Buffalo and the hockey community of Western New York.

When it comes to a wake or funeral, many think it would be a one day thing right? Wrong! With the amount of respect he has in the community of Lovejoy, his wake and funeral lasted for 3 days. He was so well respected in the community, there was an article on him. He is referred to as “Lovejoy’s Lombardi”

After his death, hockey continued through the family. It ran through the Grants as his grandson David Grant played hockey for a few years.

Fast forward to 2005 when hockey returned to the family as I laced up my skates. I played hockey for 12 years and all to thank my Great-Grandpa Blarr for introducing me to my family and mostly my Great Uncle Bucky getting me to love the game of hockey. But hockey has not taken its course yet after I hung up my skates in 2017. Two of my little cousins decided to follow in my footsteps and started playing hockey as well. Well the one took a small break from hockey to play baseball, another favorite sport of Arthur Blarr. But returned to play the greatest sport on Earth this past year. Just to say, I am like my Great-Grandfather by influencing others to play hockey. My five year old cousin would always ask to play this fine sport.

He may be gone but never forgotten.

“A lot of people credit him for changing their life around”, Bucky said.

With his contributions to the hockey community  and getting kids off the streets, he is The Lovejoy Lombardi.

Hockey in August? That does not seem right!

With the NHL, NBA, and MLB suspending their seasons, sports fans are glooming over the loss of their sports during this surreal time. There have been several talks about resuming the season or officially cancelling the season until Covid-19 has died off.

The most notable league that talked about resuming their season is the NHL. Gary Bettman, the most controversial and most hated sports commissioner, has been in talks about resuming the NHL in August without fans.

WHAT?

Seriously, they want to resume the NHL in the month of August without any fans!

Okay Mr. Bettman, what about the players from Colorado and Ottawa being tested positive for the Coronavirus? That means you will be risking every player’s lives if you resume the NHL season.

Also, a lot of the NHL players are at home. If he resumes the season, that means the players have to leave their homes and families. Most arenas are in downtowns of their respective cities in which it could infect the players and the players can carry it to their families.

Let’s travel back in time and let’s just say we traveled back to 1919. Any significance? There should be because 1919 was the year of the deadly Spanish Flu Pandemic!

What does this have to do with today and the NHL?

Well, in the NHL’s second official season, 1918-1919, The Montreal Canadiens faced the Seattle Metropolitans of the old PCHA (Pacific Coast Hockey Association) in the Stanley Cup finals. With the series tied at two to two, the Spanish Flu pandemic has taken the world by storm. Several Canadiens players have been infected including Hockey Hall of Famer Joe Hall. Due to the outbreak of the Spanish Flu, the 1919 Stanley Cup final was officially cancelled and no championship was ever awarded to any team.

You see the significance now? This is very similar to what is happening right now!

There are a lot of problems resuming in August, other than the players and staff being tested positive for the coronavirus. Here is the thing, what is going to happen in October, which is the start of the NHL season. That means playoffs will happen in September and probably end in November. That will mess everything up for the league. The NHL would have to start up in the winter or spring if they resumed it in August.

To make matters even worse, Donald Trump agreed to have it resume in August. That’s right! Our President and Leader would risk the players lives by resuming the season. Says the person who wanted churches to be open on Easter! This whole thing is getting ridiculous.

Here’s an idea for both Gary Bettman and Trump: just cancel the season!

If Mr. Bettman cancels this season, that means this will be the third time the Stanley Cup will be engraved with “2019-2020 SEASON NOT COMPLETED.”

Also what will happen with the draft and draft lottery? Well for starters, they will either cancel the draft or just draft them like the NFL is doing it. They better not use the lottery system for this if the NHL decided to cancel the season. The NHL should do the same thing that the NFL does: just have the worst team pick first! That is all they have to do!

With the NHL season suspended, at least sports fans can watch classic games like classic Sabres games from when they were actually good! If there is no point of resuming the season, the only thing sports fans can do is just wait for this outbreak to die off and have the leagues start their seasons in their respective months.

Best Article I read 4/5/2020

At this time around every major sports league has suspended their season due to the impact of the Coronavirus. Movies are being pushed back from their actual release dates to either a few months or maybe a year. Some films are already being streamed from home including Disney’s Onwards and Sonic the Hedgehog. With the coronavirus still looming, concerts have been postponed. Due to social distancing around the world, artists announced the cancellation of their tours.

But did that stop the singers from performing for them? NO! With social distancing, everyone is using web chats, schools are using Zoom, and now singers are live streaming their performances from their own homes! Artists today are performing a show from their own homes to entertain those at home. In the article Artists are playing live concerts from their homes amid the coronavirus outbreak — here’s how to watch the best ones by Callie Ahlgrim explains how people can view their live stream “concerts” from the comfort of their own home.

This article is not like any article! In fact, this article is broken down one by one talking about each artist. While reading, I read that a music festival called Luck Reunion was cancelled due to Covid-19. Instead of no showing, the runners of the music festival broadcast the artists that were scheduled to perform there on FaceBook for Free. To make it even better, legendary country singer Willie Nelson was one of them.

The article goes through each artist and tells you where to find and watch the broadcasts. For example, Pink broadcasted both a concert and a piano lesson from her own home on Instagram. Many artists broadcast their home concerts on Instagram including Hozier, Coldplay, Charlie Puth, Billie Eilish, and Elton John.

It was also revealed that MTV also broadcasted a stay at home concert too. It said that MTV launched a virtual version of their Unplugged series called “Unplugged at Home” Wyclef Jean was the first to do it and you can watch it on Youtube.

If your favorite artist decided to postpone a concert due to the coronavirus, never worry because they will live stream their concert from their homes to yours!

The Show Must Go On! Best Article I read this week!

The Coronavirus has affected the world! Not just the whole world, it has taken an effect on sports. The NHL, the NBA, and the MLB had no choice but to suspend the season as a result of a few players having tested positive for the disease. Talk shows had to take drastic measures to film at their homes through webcams. But one company will keep on going, but without having fans. The WWE have begun taping their weekly shows including Raw, Smackdown, and NXT without fans.

This week’s article I read is called Coronavirus: Watching WWE pro wrestling without fans is a surreal world by Brian Truitt. The author and I have one thing in common: we are both wrestling fans. It is true about the title of this article, it is weird watching the WWE without any fans. The WWE had to start taping their shows at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. Brian did say that it is safer to have social distancing because of how many fans show up to events including their pay-per-views.

The first episode of Monday Night Raw, since the announcement of moving their shows at the Performance, featured one of the greatest and most popular wrestlers of all time, he is none other than Stone Cold Steve Austin! Once you hear the glass shatter from his theme music, fans give a huge, loud pop that it is impossible to hear the commentators! But that episode, once you hear the glass shatter, all you hear is crickets. It is a bizarre sight seeing Stone Cold walking down the entrance ramp without hearing chants like “Austin, Austin, Austin”, or “WHAT?” This episode also featured Edge challenging Randy Orton to a match at WWE’s flagship show: Wrestlemania. But no cheers, just straight silence.

Smackdown is the first show to have no audience, and it was really weird not hearing fans being hyped for the show. John Cena appeared on that episode, no chants of “Let’s Go Cena, Cena Sucks”. Also appearing beside is WWE’s hottest character, Bray Wyatt, whose character is more of a psychotic Mr. Rogers. But still no fans singing along with their themes, no cheering, and no booing.

Towards the end of the article, the author asked if pro-wrestling should also go on hiatus as well? He answered no because everyone needs to be entertained and distracted from the fear of the coronavirus. Triple H should be given recognition for keeping fans at home entertained watching grappling and high flying action!

Our time with Aaron Besecker!

Aaron Besecker of the Buffalo News made an appearance at the University at Buffalo on  March 10th, 2020, to have a chat with Keith McShea’s UB English 397 class. Aaron did not give us the typical presentation like a guest would usually do. Instead, he was asked questions from students, almost like a press conference with the media. A lot has been learned about Aaron Besecker

Aaron started discussing his beginnings prior to his job today. Originally, he did not take journalism at college. So, what did he go for before journalism? Before journalism, he was sociology major at UB as well. He said that he did not saw himself as being a sociologist. Eventually, he started journalism and ended up graduating in 2002, not that long ago! Five years later, he got himself a job at the Buffalo News covering mostly serious crimes, interviews, incidents, and court cases.

During his appearance at UB, he was asked how many stories did the Buffalo News want from him. He clearly stated That the Buffalo News did not need a specific number of stories just as long as they are on time.

“I got 92 stories in 90 days”, Besecker explained.

Usually, as he mentioned, that there is one item published a day. He showed the class on the website, using one of his own articles as an example, what time the article was updated, published, and the date it was officially published.

He was asked how often he is at home when it comes to reporting. He said that he does not do that anymore! What? You mean, he has done that before? Yes, he said that if he had found a story, he usually chases after it until he stopped leaving his home all the time. Nowadays, he cares about working hard while he is at work or not at work. He once mentioned that he was up until 1 a.m., at home, finishing a story and publishing it on the Buffalo News website.

Someone asked if he balances criticism on perfection.

“Don’t read the comments!” Besecker said.

He was explaining to everyone that readers criticising him or constantly point out his mistakes in an article really bothers him. After explaining why, he mentioned that he tries to be open to what they say, but instead they like to poke fun or just be obnoxious about little mistakes he makes.

“Some people are coming at it from a different perspective!”

Towards the end of his appearance, he was asked if people should pursue a job in journalism? Was he able to answer that question easily? Yes he can!

“Just go with your eyes open!” he suggested.

Even though he mentioned that there are fewer journalism jobs,  he means that if you feel like journalism is a good career choice, then go right ahead and do it. There is no one stopping you from it. He also meant that just believe what is best for you and what your future lies ahead!

Hanging out with Burt Lancaster!

If you are ever bored on a Tuesday night, what would you rather do?  Would you sit and play video games for eight hours straight? Just do nothing, be lazy, and not clean your house or apartment? Do you go out? Well, I will tell you what you can do! On Tuesday nights at the Amherst Dipson Theatre, the Buffalo Film Seminar shows screenings of films ranging from the 1920’s to the 1990’s! But they have separate seasons for their seminars. There is a Fall season. Right now they are in their Spring Season. They show US films or films from foreign countries including Japan and Italy.

Every Tuesday night a 7 pm!

Last night, I went to the screening of the 1963 classic The Leopard or Il Gattopardo directed by Luchino Visconti. When I went into the theatre, it was not as packed as it was when it screened Blazing Saddles in the Fall. Prior to the actual screening, two members of the Buffalo Film Seminar, Bruce Jackson and Diane Christian briefly introduced the film and discussed the history of it.

First of all, Diane explains to the audience that The Leopard is in her top two favorite films of all time, I can see why! Bruce Jackson was discussing the director of the film prior to the screening. I learned that the director was an Italian Communist. Which is much different from a Russian Communist. They also mentioned that the film was based on the book written by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. An interesting fact is that the book was officially published after the author himself died. Right before the screening, Bruce and Diane mentioned that the film ends at the fifth chapter of the book rather than seventh. The original last sequence was supposed to be 45 minutes. In this one, it was 10 minutes shorter.

Interesting fact, the original title does not translate to The Leopard

The best part of watching this is that the chairs recline back so I can relax and enjoy the film. I will give you a brief summary of what happened. The film takes place during the Unification Period of Italy. The plot involves Prince Don Fabrizio Salina, portrayed by Burt Lancaster, who arranged the marriage of his nephew Tancredi Falconeri , who is a fiery opportunist, and the women of a rich bourgeois Angela. The whole point was to seal the alliance between the Aristocrats and the Parvenus against the peasants of Giueseppe Garibaldi.

The long ball scene in The Leopard.

The whole film is in Italian with english subtitles so I know what is going on. It did not bother me because I prefer foreign films to be shown with their native language just like the original Gojira or Godzilla from 1954. Another reason is that I am Italian myself so I get to know more history of Italy’s unification.

I personally enjoyed the film. I loved the camera work and the scenery of Italy and of the Sicilian area. I enjoyed the music score so much that I was swaying my feet to the music. The clothing in the film is stupendous and fits the time period perfectly. The only thing I did not like is the running time of the film. I can do with the Godfather but this is the first time I have seen this, so it takes time for me to get used to it.

After the film ended, I went next door to the second theatre for the Q&A portion of the presentation. I did not stay too long because a lot of people were leaving and there were only a few questions. But I did learn that the main character dies after the fifth chapter in the novel, so Burt Lancaster disappearing in the dark signifies his death. They went over that the dog is the most important character of the film and novel. But sadly, they were cut up into rugs after they died.

If you ever get bored on a Tuesday night, then go to the Dipson and watch cool movies that you have never seen before!

The Best Thing I read this Week #4!

With the 2019/2020 NHL regular season coming to a close, there has been a few ups and downs for some teams. But this team has had a lot of downs. No, I am not talking about the Buffalo Sabres because they always screw up! The team that I am talking about is the Detroit Red Wings. First of all, it is a great shame that this once great team is now going through a spiral this year. They last made the playoffs in 2015/16 under their current head coach Jeff Blashill. The Red Wings are sitting in the basement of the NHL with an abysmal record of 15-47-5. With the season almost over, the Red Wings are facing a tough remaining schedule against teams that are in playoff positions and teams that are as bad as them.

The article I read this week is “Red Wings’ tough remaining schedule a character test” written by Ansar Khan. With a few games remaining, it looks like that the Red Wings are in need of help from other players to get them through these games. According to the article, there is an unlikely chance that Red Wings are going to finish with an 8-3-0 record in their final games like last season. The 4-1 lost against New Jersey and the 7-1 lost against Minnesota perfectly explains it.

The General Manager, Steve Yzerman, said that he wants guys that are winners, not guys that are good or just skating around. This was said after Stevie Y traded Andreas Athanasiou to the Oilers for defenseman Mike Green. Yzerman and head coach Jeff Blashill also stated that for this organization, they expect more character from the team and not just a bunch of guys skating in a jersey. The Red Wings have 15 more games and are likely going to obtain the first overall pick in this years draft. As for Jeff Blashill, I do not know if they are planning on keeping him or just move on and find a different head coach.

Tree Tapping at Buffalo-Niagara Village Museum

It is that time of year once again! Easter? No, we are not even close yet! St. Patrick’s Day? No silly, not that either. What I am talking about is Maple Sugar Season! What exactly does this mean? Around the last few weeks of February to early March, farmers go outside to their maple trees and start to tap their trees so they could produce maple sugar to make maple syrup. What exactly does it mean to tap trees? Well, to start off, you do not literally tap a tree. Tree tapping is when farmers use an instrument called a tap that they embedded into the tree for the sap to drip into a bucket or sometimes a milk jug.

You are probably thinking, what is the process of tapping a tree? Rochester native and historical interpreter for 25 years at the Genesee County Museum, Tom (I did not get a last name) demonstrated how to properly tap a tree. To start tapping, he explained that you have to use the rule of hand on the tree. The rule of hand is that you use the center of your hand to determine where to properly drill a hole. Then you take off the hand and start drilling. He mentioned that you must always drill in an angle, not flat. Once you start drilling, the saw dust starts to change color from brown to yellow. When it hits yellow, you hit the sweet spot. Then Tom gently taps the tap into the hole and hangs a bucket on the tap. That’s how you properly tap a tree.

“This is the best time to start tapping!” Tom Said. “It is better to tap around cold temperatures!”

It is true! The reason he said it is better to tap trees when it is cold outside because trees are fed with sap around this time. The sap helps the trees to start blooming for Spring. Tom explained that the sap flows from the ground to the top for the branches to be fed. Despite the trees having holes in them after tapping, the trees heal overtime.

After the demonstration, I asked the Director of Education, Sara Miller, who is an employee about how they came up with the Maple Festival. She said that the museum was donated with this equipment and they thought it would be a good idea to put these to use.  I also talked to Niagara Falls native Robert Dallman about his experience. He said that he witnessed something similar to this in Franklinville, New York where there is also a Maple Festival.

After attending this, I have learned a lot about how to tap a tree and the history of it. It was really interesting and cool to witness this in real life instead of watching it on television. It was really fun to learn today and thinking about the hard work these farmers go through.

The Best Thing I Read, Week 3

Baseball is and will always be America’s favorite pass time. But after the MLB’s establishment in 1869, a plethora of scandals had surfaced the fine sport. For example, one of the most infamous scandals before the Pete Rose gambling scandal was the Black Sox Scandal in 1919. In the scandal, eight White Sox players including Shoeless Joe Jackson were accused of fixing the 1919 World Series by intentionally losing to the Cincinnati Reds. Despite the Reds winning the series, the eight White Sox players got banned from the MLB which means no inductions into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Now 101 years later, a new scandal has broke out in the MLB. This time, it’s the Houston Astros. The Astros won the World Series in 2017 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. After losing to the Nationals in the 2019, it’s been revealed that the Astros stole signs for the win in 2017. When I first heard, I did not know what that meant. Eventually, I realized that the signs are signals from the third base coach to the players. Which has the led to the article I read called, Already villains, the Astros should stop apologizing and go full heel. In the article, it was said that the Astros are trying to ask for forgiveness from their fans for the scandal. They kept going and going with the apologies. But to the fans, apologizing is not enough. The fans became outraged by the scandal from the team they loved and respected. Also in the article, it mentioned that the MLB will try to take away their World Series win and their rings. This is an embarrasment to league, to the team and to their fanbase

With the MLB season approaching in April, The Astros do not know how the fans will treat them once they hit field once again. After all the apologizing, the fans heard enough according to the article. The article itself suggested that the Astros should come out the season as full heels. As a wrestling fan, heel means that they are going to be the villains of baseball. This means that their fans will start to boo them and hate them even more. Even if they win, they will cause more heat to the fans. Does this mean that the fans will start cheering for the opposing team? This is now turning into the WWE. BUt reading this really intrigued me because I enjoy reading about scandals in sports. But with the season approaching, the Astros will have to deal with their fan base booing them. That is why this article is a must read.

Favorite Place on Campus

Out of all places on campus, one place that has always stood out to me is the Student Union. Why did I choose the SU? For starters, there is a Tim Horton’s there. Tim Horton’s is my favorite coffee place because I love it. When I was little, before my hockey games and practices, my dad would always go through the drive-thru and I usually get my small hot chocolate from my first year playing to my last. It’s not just the coffee or breakfast sandwiches that lures me into the SU. I always go there after class so I can sit and relax after hours of learning or working on workshops.

Another aspect of why the Student Union is my favorite place on campus is that there is music being played there. They usually play music on the radio but sometimes a student would play the piano that is located upstairs near the restaurant Pistachio’s. The sound of the piano relaxes me when I am under pressure when it comes to getting stuff done. But at least they play some of my favorite songs on the radio. They played Bennie and the Jets by Elton John and Enter the Sandman by my favorite, Metallica. Those are not the only songs they played. I could not hear the other ones because there is a lot of students in there.

When I am really bored, usually in the morning drinking my Tim Horton’s, I go on my phone or laptop to look up NHL stats, news, or go on YouTube to watch funny videos. The Student Union to me is very helpful to get my mind off of stress because the atmosphere there has really calm me down every time I walked through those doors. It is also a great place to meet up with friends like I usually do. I sometimes go to the SU to work on homework and I always get it done so I would not have to worry about it. That is why the Student Union is my favorite place on campus.
