The Best Thing I read this Week #4!

With the 2019/2020 NHL regular season coming to a close, there has been a few ups and downs for some teams. But this team has had a lot of downs. No, I am not talking about the Buffalo Sabres because they always screw up! The team that I am talking about is the Detroit Red Wings. First of all, it is a great shame that this once great team is now going through a spiral this year. They last made the playoffs in 2015/16 under their current head coach Jeff Blashill. The Red Wings are sitting in the basement of the NHL with an abysmal record of 15-47-5. With the season almost over, the Red Wings are facing a tough remaining schedule against teams that are in playoff positions and teams that are as bad as them.

The article I read this week is “Red Wings’ tough remaining schedule a character test” written by Ansar Khan. With a few games remaining, it looks like that the Red Wings are in need of help from other players to get them through these games. According to the article, there is an unlikely chance that Red Wings are going to finish with an 8-3-0 record in their final games like last season. The 4-1 lost against New Jersey and the 7-1 lost against Minnesota perfectly explains it.

The General Manager, Steve Yzerman, said that he wants guys that are winners, not guys that are good or just skating around. This was said after Stevie Y traded Andreas Athanasiou to the Oilers for defenseman Mike Green. Yzerman and head coach Jeff Blashill also stated that for this organization, they expect more character from the team and not just a bunch of guys skating in a jersey. The Red Wings have 15 more games and are likely going to obtain the first overall pick in this years draft. As for Jeff Blashill, I do not know if they are planning on keeping him or just move on and find a different head coach.
