The Best Thing I Read, Week 3

Baseball is and will always be America’s favorite pass time. But after the MLB’s establishment in 1869, a plethora of scandals had surfaced the fine sport. For example, one of the most infamous scandals before the Pete Rose gambling scandal was the Black Sox Scandal in 1919. In the scandal, eight White Sox players including Shoeless Joe Jackson were accused of fixing the 1919 World Series by intentionally losing to the Cincinnati Reds. Despite the Reds winning the series, the eight White Sox players got banned from the MLB which means no inductions into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Now 101 years later, a new scandal has broke out in the MLB. This time, it’s the Houston Astros. The Astros won the World Series in 2017 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. After losing to the Nationals in the 2019, it’s been revealed that the Astros stole signs for the win in 2017. When I first heard, I did not know what that meant. Eventually, I realized that the signs are signals from the third base coach to the players. Which has the led to the article I read called, Already villains, the Astros should stop apologizing and go full heel. In the article, it was said that the Astros are trying to ask for forgiveness from their fans for the scandal. They kept going and going with the apologies. But to the fans, apologizing is not enough. The fans became outraged by the scandal from the team they loved and respected. Also in the article, it mentioned that the MLB will try to take away their World Series win and their rings. This is an embarrasment to league, to the team and to their fanbase

With the MLB season approaching in April, The Astros do not know how the fans will treat them once they hit field once again. After all the apologizing, the fans heard enough according to the article. The article itself suggested that the Astros should come out the season as full heels. As a wrestling fan, heel means that they are going to be the villains of baseball. This means that their fans will start to boo them and hate them even more. Even if they win, they will cause more heat to the fans. Does this mean that the fans will start cheering for the opposing team? This is now turning into the WWE. BUt reading this really intrigued me because I enjoy reading about scandals in sports. But with the season approaching, the Astros will have to deal with their fan base booing them. That is why this article is a must read.
