Out of all places on campus, one place that has always stood out to me is the Student Union. Why did I choose the SU? For starters, there is a Tim Horton’s there. Tim Horton’s is my favorite coffee place because I love it. When I was little, before my hockey games and practices, my dad would always go through the drive-thru and I usually get my small hot chocolate from my first year playing to my last. It’s not just the coffee or breakfast sandwiches that lures me into the SU. I always go there after class so I can sit and relax after hours of learning or working on workshops.
Another aspect of why the Student Union is my favorite place on campus is that there is music being played there. They usually play music on the radio but sometimes a student would play the piano that is located upstairs near the restaurant Pistachio’s. The sound of the piano relaxes me when I am under pressure when it comes to getting stuff done. But at least they play some of my favorite songs on the radio. They played Bennie and the Jets by Elton John and Enter the Sandman by my favorite, Metallica. Those are not the only songs they played. I could not hear the other ones because there is a lot of students in there.
When I am really bored, usually in the morning drinking my Tim Horton’s, I go on my phone or laptop to look up NHL stats, news, or go on YouTube to watch funny videos. The Student Union to me is very helpful to get my mind off of stress because the atmosphere there has really calm me down every time I walked through those doors. It is also a great place to meet up with friends like I usually do. I sometimes go to the SU to work on homework and I always get it done so I would not have to worry about it. That is why the Student Union is my favorite place on campus.
