Are you ready to Rock and Roll All Night and Party everyday? Those were the words of Paul Stanley’s announcement for the night’s final song. To everyone who does not know who Paul Stanley is—well you are missing out! Why do I say this? Well, Paul Stanley is the lead singer of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s KISS! On February 5th, 2020, I went to the End of the Road tour concert at KeyBank Center of Buffalo, NY. It was a little strange because it was on a Wednesday, a normal work or school day. But KISS Fans did not care— they were back in town. This past August, they performed at Darien Lake outside of Buffalo. I did not have the opportunity to see them then, so I was especially happy to see them this time.
You may ask—how did I get the tickets? My father gifted the tickets to me for my 21st birthday! So, given this milestone, Paul Stanley’s words resonated well that night. I did not entirely Rock and Roll All Night, as I did not drink my heart out. I had too much responsibility. I had to make a long, grueling, snowy journey home.
As for my fellow Rock and Rollers, we stormed Keybank Center…but not as much as anticipated. Yes, the concert was packed, but not as much as the previous concerts I’ve seen. This past month, I’ve seen Iron Maiden and Metallica in concert. There was hardly elbow room to rock out. For KISS, this was not the case. There was room to Rock and Roll to my heart’s content. My dad and I guessed this happened because of KISS’s concert last August, and also because the concert landed on a cold weekday.
The smaller-than-expected turnout of fans did not detract from the concert. As KISS screamed their songs, I shrieked like a hardcore little girl. Gene Simmons’ fire breath and blood spitting strangely enthralled me. I was so amazed, I forgot about how weird his performing methods were. At least he did not spit real blood, or else I’d be terribly concerned for Gene Simmons’ health.
The experience was absolutely amazing. However, there was one small disappointment that had nothing to do with the performance. I sat in the suites, where vendors are supposed to provide free drinks and food. It’s KeyBank Centers’ peak of luxury. But, they failed my father and I. They only delivered one tall drink, and a case of six beers for $34 dollars. How blasphemous! And, the vendors forgot to serve us food. I was hungry, but the entire performance fed me amazement. So really, my flawed suite experience was not a problem.
Despite the terrible vendor service, I still managed to have a great experience at the show. I finally got to experience KISS. This made my 21st birthday unforgettable!
